Mount Elma Snowshoe Summit

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Cold bourbon, hot coffee and great views. Decent!!

Snowshoed to the top of Mount Elma today. 13.6km, 709m elevation gain. Total moving time was 4 hours.

Walking over Lake Helen Mackenzie was cool but with the wind, it got cold pretty quick. There's no real avalanche danger on this trail but you do need to know where you're going. Lots of trails to get turned around in, even if you have gps!

Stopped at the top for an hour or so. Had some bourbon, made some coffee and enjoyed the view. It was a bit windy and cold but the coffee took care of that!

Going down can be trickier than going up. I do need better snowshoes next year. I walked backwards down one steep section, accidently slid on my ass down another steep section, the snowshoe trail kept me going straight and safe like a toboggan!

The sun started to come out more after I had left the summit and the snow was starting to melt a bit. Big globs of snow were falling off the trees and there was no real way to avoid it at parts. I had a big chunk hit me in the back of the neck so I'm a bit stiff now but the trip back was uneventful otherwise.
