Indianhead Mountain

Indianhead Mountain 12km, 544m elevation gain.

It's been raining recently and I knew it was going to be a cloudy day but I wanted to attempt Indianhead Mountain and Mount Drabble. The trail started with a short section of wet four foot tall grass. My boots had also started to fail and were no longer waterproof so I was soaked from the waist down pretty early but wanted to press on.

I made it to McKenzie Lake and saw a beaver dragging a piece of wood across the lake to its lodge. When I made it to Douglas Lake there was a couple camping who mentioned hearing beavers in the lake there, slapping their tails close by in the night.

On the South side of Douglas Lake and McKenzie Lake I took an unmarked path through the McKenzie meadows. It was a more direct route to where I was going and offered better views than the other route I thought.

Still soaking wet from the waist down I made it through the meadows, joined up briefly with the Plateau Trail and made my way up past the viewpoint sign to Indianhead Mountain. It's only 205 meters of elevation gain to the summit from there.

There were lots of ptarmigans on the mountain. It was quiet until you got close to some trees and two or three ptarmigans would fly out scaring the crap out of you in the process.

I made it to the top of Indianhead Mountain at 1279 meters, enjoyed the "view" and had some lunch. I decided to head back the way I came and come back for Mount Drabble another time when I had rain pants and new boots.
